This countryside cortijo is situated 2 minutes by car into the town of Motril or a 10 minute walk. The house has a private swimming pool (5 mtrs x 2.5 mtrs). The property is gated and fenced with car parking inside the gates.

The interior of the house is well maintained and comfortable with all mod-cons. There is free to air satellite TV (BBC1, BBC2, after 7pm BBC3 and BBC4, ITV, CBeebies, CNN, Sky News and other cartoon/travel/news channels) plus a DVD amd CD music system.

The ground floor of the property has a large sitting room with kitchen/American style bar at one end - through to the bathroom (shower only) and a double bedroom.  On the first floor are two good sized bedrooms - one double bed and one single with a second sitting area which has a single bed.  A door from the second sitting area leads to an upper terrace with stairs to the lower pool and terrace.

There is seating at the front of the house under a shaded pergola or further into the garden are table and chairs for dining by the stone built BBQ.  There is gated access to the rest of the garden planted with numerous fruit trees and at the end of the garden is the chicken shed.  It should be noted that Lucky, the dog, lives in this gated garden area with the cat called ´no name´!  There is also a horse stable near the property ... all adding to a very back to nature experience!

Cortijo el Refugio is a 2 minute drive from Motril or a 10 minute walk, the largest town on the Costa Tropical de Granada. Here you have access to modern grocery stores, hundreds of authentic eateries and excellent shopping from luxurious to bargain. The fresh food market is open every day except Sunday, and the rastro-style mercadillo comes to town every Tuesday and Friday. This is all a few minutes from your holiday home.

Between Cortijo el Refugio and Granada lie the charming Lecrin Valley and Alpujarras villages. Countless pueblos selling traditional crafts and offering mouth-watering hearty fare await your exploration, most within an hour's drive from this cortijo.

Granada, jewel of the province and home to the Alhambra Palace, is less than an hours drive. Charming mountain villages, too numerous to mention, dot the Lecrin Valley and Alpujarras hills on the way to Granada. Those preferring a coastal outing will find many towns to choose from: Nerja, a long favourite of travellers, is half an hour away and the castle-topped seaside towns of Almunecar and Salobrena are within minutes of the cortijo. A car is essential.

The Sierra Nevada, Spain's highest mountain range, is a magnificent backdrop to this partly undiscovered area of Spain. The area enjoys a microclimate, subtropical in character, a warm and gentle 18 degrees in winter and an average of 25 degrees in summer.

The beaches are unspoilt, there are golf courses in Granada (18 holes) and Los Moriscos golf course (9 holes) just 5 kms from Motril and is by the sea with a restaurant and bar. There is also the Marina at the Port of Motril.

This is the old Andalucian part of Spain, complete with fiestas, whitewashed villages, Moorish castles and some of the best and least expensive food and wine to be found. The restaurants and tapas bars are very good and the fish is excellent. There is history to be found everywhere, from the Alhambra Palace in Granada (just 50 minutes by car) to the Alpujarras region. The coastal towns of Almeria, Almunecar, Salobrena and Nerja are also well worth a visit.
